New and Improved Google Earth 5.2
The new and improved Google Earth 5.2 version features a better embedded browser. Also provided are Track and Multitrack (collection of tracks) functions that let you create a Point icon or Model that can move through time between locations.
A time slider lets you animate a location as well as the orientation and then you can create a line tracing your desired path. You can also see an elevation profile as well as speed and other data (e.g., a heart rate) within a KML file.
Track and Multitrack may be implemented through user-authored KML documents and also by the importation of GPS data into the Google Earth application.

How did Google Earth begin?
A tiny company named Autometric is credited with the beginnings of Google Earth. Autometric initially developed a visualization product called Edge Whole Earth and in 1996 showed it to SGI. The Edge Viewer product became available through the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in 2000 at no cost.
Google’s first implementation was called Earth Viewer and came from Intrinsic Graphics. This was a demo of a software-based method of a Clip Mapping texture paging system. This became spun off as Keyhole, Inc. Soon Earth Viewer was able to realize the potential of a texture paging system that was seamless.

What are some of Google’s recent updates?
New imagery of the ocean floor was updated by Google at the beginning of 2009. The new imagery used for this updating was obtained from the U.S. Navy, NGA, SIO, GEBCO, and NOAA.
What is the Geographic Web layer?
Added to Google Earth in 2006, Geographic Web is a feature that is integrated with Panoramio and Wikipedia. A community layer is offered from Wikipedia-World and Geographic Web is able to retrieve coordinates through Wikipedia’s Coord templates. The Geographic Web layer was removed by Google in March of 2010 and Wikipedia was relocated to the More layer.

What is Google Street View?
Providing a street-level view of selected area including major cities at ground level, Google Street View offers panoramic three hundred and sixty degree views at ground level. First made available in 2007 with just five cities offered, Google Street View has rapidly expanded to include a vast array of locations worldwide.
Where do Google Street View images come from?
The images provided through Google Street View come from a camera that was mounted on a car.
How is Google Street View navigated?
The navigation within Google Street View is accomplished by clicking on the device’s mouse on photograph icons located in the direction of the user’s travel, and thus locations can be viewed form different angles and in varying sizes.
What can I see using the Google Ocean features?
